Lexar memory cards being discontinued, parent company says

The parent company of Lexar – a producer of memory cards, flash drives and card readers – has announced they are discontinuing their retail removable storage retail business.

Micron, headquartered in Boise, Idaho with a location in Round Rock, announced on its blog Monday that Lexar was being phased out “as part of the company’s ongoing efforts to focus on its increasing opportunities in higher value markets and channels.” Lexar is based in California and says on its website it has been producing memory storage for more than 20 years.

All is not lost for fans of Lexar products, as Micron added it “is exploring opportunities to sell all or part of the Lexar business.” PetaPixel reported from a source that Lexar could be purchased by another company.
