ROUND ROCK -- The Round Rock Police Department concluded their investigation of a dog shooting Wednesday after two officers shot and killed a dog while responding to a home alarm last Friday.
On May 30, two officers went to a home in the 1700 block of Parkside Circle after the home's alarm system went off. When officers arrived they found an open door and decided to enter the residence. While searching the home, they came across a 120 pound Rottweiler, and found the dog to be aggressive. The two officers each fired several shots at the dog, killing it.
RRPD's command staff say they reviewed all the information and concluded that the officers acted in a reasonable manner and followed protocol.
RRPD says they are working on reviewing current policies in dealing with aggressive animals, and they selected a national training program in dealing with aggressive animals that all commissioned police officers with the department must complete.
