The next game featuring Star Wars will have players recruit allies like Princess Leia and Han Solo, or fight against them as a member of Darth Vader's Empire.
Disney Interactive partnered with Lucasfilm on the game Star Wars Commander for smartphones and tablets. The game is reminiscent of hit title Clash of Clans, where players build up a base and either fight for the Rebel Alliance or the Empire.
Players start out by building a base on Tatooine, the home planet of Luke Skywalker. After learning the basics, players choose whether to fight for the rebels or Darth Vader.
"The natural conflict between Rebel and Empire, light and dark, in Star Wars lends itself nicely to the overall game mechanic," said Lucasfilm executive producer Matt Fillbrandt.
Players will use credits and alloy to build their bases, gaining access to countless vehicles and items from Star Wars lore, such as the rebels' X-wing fighters and the Empire's AT-AT walkers.
Fillbrandt says Lucasfilm has a group of writers focusing on the stories for the games, upcoming movies and other properties to ensure everything fits within Star Wars' rich universe.
"(We're) working very closely with the story group to come up with authentic characters and a story that doesn't tread or step on the toes of anything else that we're doing," he says.
The game is currently available for Apple's iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch.
