My passion for writing first drew me to journalism, and the ability to help my community is what makes me cherish this profession. I count myself blessed to be part of the KVUE News team since 2010, and work with a group of truly dedicated journalists. I anchor the number one rated Weekend Daybreak newscast and report three days a week.
The road to covering Austin news was tough but worth the wait. Most recently I was a reporter and anchor at KCEN in Waco, Texas, where I often covered Fort Hood. On November 5th, 2009, everything changed. That day I heard reports of multiple gunshot victims on the police scanner, and my photographer and I drove immediately to the Army post. Little did I know my continuous coverage of the shootings would make national news, including the opportunity to report live for Nightly News with Brian Williams. It was a heartbreaking story that touched me deeply, as I had covered the military for several years and saw first hand how the stress of multiple wars was already taking a toll on military families.
Prior to transplanting to Texas, I worked as a reporter and anchor at KOMU in Columbia, MO. I covered the Missouri Legislature, city government, and severe weather. I even chased storms in Mid-Missouri including one record setting day when 100 tornadoes hit our viewing area, causing unimaginable damage.
I studied broadcast journalism and political science at the University of Missouri-Columbia, where I graduated from the honors college Magna Cum Laude. I also have my MBA from Texas A&M University-Central Texas, where by the grace of God, I survived with a 4.0.
I'm a small town girl at heart, I grew up in the Ozarks, just outside of Springfield and Branson in Southwest Missouri. However, I'm thrilled to call Austin home. It's the perfect mix of friendly people, delicious restaurants, and quirkiness.
