Angela Kocherga is the KVUE Border Bureau Chief and covers the southwest border and interior of Mexico on air and online.
Angela has reports extensively on the drug war in Mexico and its impact on families on both sides of the border. She has brought viewers stories from Nuevo Laredo, Reynosa, and Ciudad Juarez, Mexico's murder capital.
On the U.S. side she has covered the buildup of the border patrol, border fence and immigration issues from both Arizona, Texas, and the interior of Mexico.
Her work also includes coverage of trade, tourism, health and other binational issues.
Angela began her career with Gannett in 1994 at WFAA-TV in Dallas. In 1999 Gannett's Houston station KHOU hired Angela to open a Mexico Bureau in Mexico City.
During that time, she also worked on stories along Mexico's southern border with Guatemala, Guatemala City and Havana, Cuba.
In 2006 amid concerns about escalating drug violence, border security and immigration, KVUE relocated the bureau from Mexico City to the southwest border. Angela is now based in El Paso-Juarez, a midway point for reporting along the border.
She has earned several journalism awards for her work in Mexico, including two Emmys for drug war coverage.
