NFL: Report of Young's test score 'incorrect'
02:27 PM CST on Wednesday, March 1, 2006
AUSTIN – NFL spokesman Steve Alic on Tuesday emphatically said reports that former Texas quarterback Vince Young scored a 6 on the Wonderlic test over the weekend "are incorrect." Alic helps with media relations during the NFL combine, which is run by National Football Scouting, a group of NFL scouts. "Any report of a test score of 6 is incorrect," Alic said. "The people who run the combine told me emphatically that it was incorrect. They said it couldn't be more wrong. "I know the report is wrong and know the scores are confidential." Alic said he was unaware of any problems in grading Young's test score. There had been some speculation, including from Texas coach Mack Brown, that Young's test had been graded improperly. Alic said Wonderlic test scores are confidential and are not released to NFL teams until after the combine, which wrapped up Tuesday. He refused further comment. Young's agent, Major Adams, told the Houston Chronicle that Young scored a 16 on the Wonderlic, which tests cognitive thinking, on a second attempt. Adams and Young's business manager, Keith Young, did not return repeated phone calls for comment. Brown said Monday that he was told by an NFL official "the test was graded wrong" when Young took it the first time. E-mail chipbrown@dallasnews.com
