The Longhorns are now #9 in the Coaches poll, while West Virginia is #7. It’s the first top ten match-up at DKR since UT vs Oklahoma State in 2008.
Texas has only played West Virginia one other time in school history. A 7-6 loss in Austin in October of 1956. That was the year before Darrell Royal came to Texas.
UT has forced eight turnovers and given up just one through four games. Mack Brown points out the Horns have won 58 straight games when they’ve won the turnover battle.
Mack Brown says David Ash is only the 4th UT quarterback to throw for more than 300 yards in back to back games. The others: Colt McCoy, James Brown, and Major Applewhite.
Mack Brown says his Linebackers need to play better, with Texas giving up more than 30 points in back to back games and dropping to 86th in the nation in run defense.
West Virginia QB Geno Smith has thrown for 20 touchdowns and no interceptions so far this season. He is number one in the nation in passing efficiency. David Ash is #2.
DJ Monroe says the West Virginia game is “going to be a shoot out”. Carrington Byndom agrees, saying there’s “a lot at stake”.
Mack Brown lost only six home games in his first 12 years as UT head coach. He’s lost seven home games in the last two and a half years.
