Mack Brown and the Longhorns have an easier week this week, with their first bye of the season. The other will come the week of November 17th.
Texas has opened the season 3-0 for the 6th year in a row. Even in 2010, when they went 5-7, the Horns won their first three games. Years under Mack Brown when they did not when their first three: 2006 (lost to Ohio State), 2003 (lost to Arkansas), 2000 (lost to Stanford), 1999 (lost to NC State), and 1998 (lost to UCLA and Kansas State).
David Ash has been selected as the Davey O’Brien Quarterback of the Week, the Davey O’Brien Award announced on Monday. Ash threw four touchdown passes against Ole Miss. He was also named offensive player of the week in the Big 12.
After the bye week, the Horns will play at Oklahoma State, home vs West Virginia, and OU in Dallas. Could be one of the toughest three game stretches in recent memory. And the 4th game could be included in the tough description: home vs Baylor.
The Longhorns will open the season with their 4th straight night game, with a 6:50 kickoff in Stillwater. There’s a good chance the 5th game, against West Virginia, will also be a night game. That could make the Oklahoma game a bit unsettling, with a rumored 11am kickoff in Dallas.
