Mack Brown celebrated his 61st birthday on Monday.  He said Darrell and Edith Royal will be honorary captains for the season opener against Wyoming on Saturday.

Wyoming had 8 wins last year, the same as Texas, and Mack says the Cowboys have a talented coaching staff.

Mack likes the continuity on offense this year and is anxious to see how they respond.  Turnovers are something he’s looking for:  avoiding them on offense and forcing them on defense.  And he doesn’t want fans to leave to “eat a hot dog” during special teams this year.

Mack Brown has lost only one opening game in his tenure at Texas.  That was the 1999 game, at home, against North Carolina State.

David Ash says he is “humble and thrilled” to be the starting quarterback.  He also says he’s “nervous and anxious” for opening day.  Ash says decision making is much easier this year and that will be a key to his improvement.

Ash threw only four touchdowns a year ago, just one more than Jaxon Shipley.  Ash had eight interceptions.

Carrington Byndom says the Horns have the same expectations they do every year: to win.

The Longhorns have only four seniors listed as starters right now, but have 15 freshmen on the two deep roster.
