Phillies win game two
08:36 PM CDT on Thursday, October 2, 2008
Brett Myers outpitched CC Sabathia and Shane Victorino belted a grand slam as the Philadelphia Phillies knocked off Milwaukee 5-2 to take a two-games-to-none lead in the National League Division Series.
Myers limited the Brewers to two runs and a pair of hits in seven innings to help the Phils move within one victory of their first NLCS appearance in 15 years. Myers got into trouble immediately, walking J.J. Hardy with the bases loaded in the top of the first. The Brewers didn't get another hit until Hardy led off the seventh with a double.
The Phillies tagged Sabathia for five runs in the second inning, highlighted by Victorino's blast. Victorino had three of the Phils' nine hits.
Sabathia was pulled in the fourth, charged with six hits and four walks. It was his shortest outing since being traded to the Brewers in early July.
Brad Lidge worked the ninth for his second save in two days, wrapping up a combined three-hitter. He's converted all 43 of his save opportunities this season.
The Brewers will try to avoid elimination when they host Game 3 Saturday.
