Charlie Strong is highly respected in the football coaching fraternity. His 1st head coaching opportunity was at Louisville and Strong has a strong emotional tie to the Cardinals program for that reason alone.
When Strong was offered the job Friday evening by UT Athletic Director Steve Patterson, Strong delayed his decision until after he met with both the president and athletic director at Louisville Saturday evening.
Strong did inform them both he is accepted the Texas opportunity.
At age 53, Charlie Strong will become Mack Brown's successor.
A formal announcement is expected tomorrow (Sunday) and an introductory press conference is expected on Monday in Austin.
No confirmation by the Texas athletic department has been received yet.
