SAN DIEGO, Calif. – Nneka Enemkpali recorded her seventh double-double of the season but the No. 20/21 Texas Women’s Basketball team dropped a 86-63 decision to the Iowa Hawkeyes in its first game of the Maggie Dixon Surf ‘n Slam Classic on Friday night.

Enemkpali’s 13 points and 12 rebounds paced the Longhorns but UT was unable to keep up with an Iowa team that shot 52.2 percent (35-of-67) from the field on the night.

Freshman Imani McGee-Stafford and junior Chassidy Fussell also posted double figures for Texas with 12 and 11 points, respectively, and junior Ashley Roberts matched her career high with nine, including a career-high three makes from beyond the arc.

The two teams traded leads early in the game before Iowa used a 26-6 run to take control midway through the first half.  The Longhorns committed 14 turnovers in the opening stanza that were converted into 21 Hawkeye points.  McGee-Stafford and Fussell led UT with six first-half points apiece while Enemkpali grabbed five rebounds.

Texas played a cleaner second half, shooting 45.2 percent and committing just twoturnovers, but was unable to cut into the Hawkeyes' lead.

Melissa Dixon, Morgan Johnson and Jaime Printy each eclipsed the 20-point mark for Iowa with Dixon sinking five three-pointers and finishing with a game-high 23 points.  Samantha Logic pulled down 15 rebounds and dished out 14 assists.

The Longhorns will close out their preseason schedule when they take on CentralMichigan in Sunday’s tournament consolation game at 2 p.m. Central.
