SAN MARCOS, Texas -- The Harlem Globetrotters will have a former Texas State University Bobcat on their team next year.
Joyce “Sweet J” Ekworomadu was signed by the Globetrotters as one of four new players.
Ekworomadu will travel with the team on their “2014 ‘Fans Rule’ World Tour.” She’ll be the 12th female player in the history of the basketball organization.
“We are coming off our best touring year ever in 2013, with more and more fans enjoying the Globetrotters than ever before,” said Globetrotters Legend Sweet Lou Dunbar, the team’s director of player personnel.
Ekworomadu, who stands at 5’ 10,” was a sharp-shooter for Texas State University and was the Southland Conference Player of the Year as well as Student Athlete of the Year in 2008. She averaged 18.7 points per game which led to the opening round NIT victory, the first postseason win in program history.
“The Globetrotters are primed to make 2014 even more successful, and these terrific rookies will be a big part of that success,” Dunbar said.
Ekworomadu played professionally in Poland and Italy. She was previously a member of the Nigerian national team since 2007 and is a native of Dallas. Her parents, who are from Nigeria, moved to the U.S. before she was born.
