San Marcos, Texas – Texas State athletic director Larry Teis announced that the Bobcat football team will open its 2013 season with a road game at Southern Miss on August 31.
Texas State’s 12-game schedule includes six home games as well as two more non-conference road games at Texas Tech and Idaho. The Bobcats also join the Sun Belt Conference in 2013 and play four league games at Bobcat Stadium.
“I am happy that we were able to balance out our schedule,” Teis said. “It is important that we can maintain six home games per year for our fans. We are excited about our move to the Sun Belt Conference and the 2013 schedule includes non-conference games against opponents from the Big 12, Conference USA and the Mountain West Conferences.”
The Bobcats play their first home game against Prairie View A&M on Sept. 7 and will play another non-conference home game against Wyoming on Sept. 28.
The complete Sun Belt Conference schedule will not be announced until later this spring, but the league’s football lineup includes Arkansas State, Georgia State, Louisiana-Lafayette, Louisiana-Monroe, South Alabama, Texas State, Troy and Western Kentucky.
“We are excited to compete in our first year as a member of the Sun Belt Conference,” said Texas State head football coach Dennis Franchione. “I believe that our schedule is very challenging and that it gives our team the opportunity to play against quality opponents.”
The Bobcats will play four conference home games against Louisiana-Lafayette, Louisiana-Monroe, South Alabama and Western Kentucky. Texas State plays conference road games at Arkansas State, Georgia State and Troy.
