San Marcos, Texas – Former Texas State standout football players Joplo Bartu and Darryl Morris have signed contracts with the Atlanta Falcons and San Francisco 49ers, respectively.
Bartu signed with Atlanta after earning All-WAC Second-Team honors and posting 95 tackles to lead the Bobcats and finish sixth among WAC leaders. He also ranked second among the league leaders with 12.0 tackle for losses of 48 yards and his 5.5 quarterback sacks tied for fifth among WAC leaders. Bartu also broke up a pass, hurried two quarterbacks, recovered a fumble and forced another fumble.
A native of Waller, Texas, Bartu was named the WAC Defensive Player of the Week in his final collegiate game after collecting 17 tackles (12 solo), eight tackle for losses of 34 yards and four sacks in a win over New Mexico State.
He ended his collegiate career with 248 tackles, 22.5 tackle for losses of 95 yards and 11.5 quarterback sacks. He also forced five fumbles and recovered five more fumbles during his career.
Morris also earned All-WAC Second-Team honors in 2012 after he tied for 23rd nationally and fourth among WAC leaders with four interceptions and finished ninth among league leaders with nine passes defended. He also was fourth among Bobcat leaders with 61 tackles and had two tackles for loss. He recorded an interception return of seven yards against both San Jose State and UTSA.
A native of San Antonio, Morris was a four-year starter for the Bobcats who also earned All-Southland Conference honors as a sophomore and ended his career with 223 tackles, including 162 solo stops, 16.5 tackle for losses of 60 yards, five interceptions and 31 passes defended in his career. He also forced a fumble and recovered a fumble during his career.
He had the distinction of returning an interception 37 yards for a touchdown and recording a safety after sacking a Lamar quarterback in the end zone as a junior.
