Austin area baseball players and Longhorns selected in M.L.B. June Amateur Draft

There were a total of 3-Texas Longhorn junior baseball players selected in the Major League Baseball's June Amateur Draft.

3rd baseman Eric Weiss was the 13th selection by the Pirates in the 11th round. Outfielder Mark Payton was taken by the Indians in the 16th round and Cedar Park native, pitcher Nathan Thornhill was a 24th round pick by Houston.

Five Texas signees were drafted. Most notable with fathers who are former Longhorn baseball legends Navarro College pitcher Lukas Schiraldi and Kacy Clemens in the 35th round.

Clemens to Houston and Schiraldi to the Nationals.

As for others with Austin area connections.

Anderson HS alumn/Texas Tech pitcher Andre Wheeler was a 15th round pick by the White Sox.

Lake Travis HS alumn/Baylor pitcher  Max Garner was an 18th round selection by the Marlins.

The Washington Nationals took Concordia University pitcher Ryan Ullmann in the 30th round.

Dripping Springs native, St. Edward's University's 2nd baseman Taylor Johnson, was a 40th round selecton by the Tigers.

Texas State's Donnie Hart was a 27th rounder by Baltimore.
