Five former Longhorns have been selected to the 2013 NFL Pro Bowl, including Seattle Seahawks S Earl Thomas and Chicago Bears DT Henry Melton for the NFC, and Cleveland Browns PK Phil Dawson, Kansas City Chiefs RB Jamaal Charles and Chiefs LB Derrick Johnson for the AFC.
It marks the first time in UT history it will have five representatives after previously having four on three occasions, including 1957, 1968 and 2010. Texas has also had at least three players chosen in six of the last eight years.
It will be the second-straight appearance for Thomas and Johnson, and the second in the last three years for Charles, while Dawson and Melton will be making their first trips. Texas has now had 40 different Pro Bowlers representing 22 different teams in a total of 94 appearances.
In addition, it extends Texas' streak of consecutive years with at least one Pro Bowl player to 12, which is a school record. There have only been 11 years in Texas history without at least one.
The Pro Bowl will played on Sunday, Jan. 27, 2013, in Honolulu, and will air at 6 p.m. CT on NBC.
