Jarrell boys shoot for a state title

The Jarrell Cougars will return to the state tournament for the first time in 10 years.

Ten years ago, the Jarrell Cougars made it to the state tournament. Since then, they’ve had several strong playoff runs but haven’t made a return. That was until this season.

Pairing a strong inside game - led by 6-foot-7 center Qyrique Dabon - with excellent shooting guards, the Cougars have won 33 games with only three losses to follow. Included in those 33 victories are wins against No. 4 La Marque and No. 6 Teague in the regional tournament; wins that the players said have boosted their confidence ahead of state.

Jarrell will face Brock in the Class 3A State semifinals at 3 p.m. Thursday in San Antonio.
