Friday Softball Scores - Vista Ridge loses

Pearland beats Cedar Park Vista Ridge 3-0

Brittany Bowden pitched a five hit shut out as Pearland eliminated Cedar Park Vista Ridge 3-0 in UIL Class 5A softball state semifinal playoff action.

Pearland scored once in the first and added a pair of insurance runs in the sixth inning while Bowden used a sharp breaking ball to keep the Rangers off balance.

Bowden scattered the five hits and allowed only two balls to be hit out of the infield. Bowden walked two and struck out one while enticing the Rangers to hit nine ground outs and nine pop ups in the infield.

The victorious Oilers (37-6-1) scored once in the first inning when Pearland loaded the bases with no outs. Jensen Tydelski scored from third on a single by Kimberlee Rychlik. Pearland added two runs in the sixth inning on an RBI round out by Chelsea Bennett and an RBI single by Lauren Langner.

Megan Coronado, Tydelski, Rychlik and Langner had two hits each for Pearland.

Kayt-Lyn Johnson had three hits for Vista Ridge as the Rangers stranded nine bases runners including three at third base.

New Braunfels Canyon beats Mesquite Poteet

Stephanie Peace hit an RBI double with two outs in the sixth inning to score Many Ogle, lifting New Braunfels Canyon to a 1-0 win over Mesquite Poteet in the UIL Class 4A softball state semifinal.

New Braunfels Canyon (37-3) pitcher Sara Mireles worked seven innings, striking out four. Mireles started the game ending double play when she snagged a line drive off the bat of Jordan Wright and spun to catch the Pirates' runner off second base.

Peace later delivered a long line drive that sailed just beyond the grasp of Pirate center fielder Lindsey Barsoum, allowing Ogle to score the only run of the game.

Designated hitter Kate Foster of Mesquite Poteet had two of the Pirates' three hits. Earlier in the day Foster won the silver medal in the UIL Class 4A girls discus competition at the state track meet across the street.

Brandie Baker of Mesquite Poteet (35-10-1) threw for six innings, scattering five hits and striking out four for the loss.

The Cougarettes will face Angleton in a Class 4A championship game.

Angleton defeats Azle 1-0 in Class 4A

Madisyn Ward hit a game-winning sacrifice bunt and pitched a complete-game shutout to lift Angleton to a 1-0 win over Azle in a Class 4A softball playoff semifinal.

Gabby Banda led off the bottom of the ninth inning Friday for Angleton (23-8-1) with a pop up to the infield that was dropped by the Azle second baseman. Banda slid into second and then Nicole Sardelich bunted Banda to third.

Then Ward bunted on the first pitch thrown to her and Banda beat the throw to the plate. Ward pitched all nine innings, striking out eight, walking one and allowing two hits.

Sarah Mendez struck out 17 and walked one for Azle (27-14-2) while allowing two hits and no earned runs. Azle third baseman Brittany Wilson had both Hornets hits wile Damian and Jessie Reyes had the Angleton hits.

Angleton advances to the final Saturday.

Celina defeats Spring Hill 4-1 in Class 3A

Kylie Roos pitched a two-hit complete game as Celina defeated Longview Spring Hill 4-1 in UIL Class 3A state softball tournament semifinal action.

Roos added a pair of hits and drove in two runs in Friday's dominate performance. The senior struck out six and walked three. Celina (37-5) will face Needville Saturday at 2 pm. In the 3A finals.

Celina scored two runs in the third inning as Brittanie Knowles singled then scored on a triple by sister Lindsie Knowles. Roos drove in Lindsie Knowles for the second run. The Bobcats added an unearned run in the third inning as Shelby Carter reached on an error and came around to score on a throwing error for a 3-0 Celina lead.

Spring Hill (29-9) broke the shutout in the sixth inning by loading the bases with one out. Ashley Campbell scored from third on an RBI ground out by Lizzie Autry. Spring Hill pitcher Kayla Williams allowed five hits and struck out one.
