Mitchell Davis redirected a weak-side through pass into the goal at 74:12 to lead Mesquite Poteet to a 1-0 win over Mansfield Legacy in the Class 4A boys soccer state semifinals Thursday.
Mesquite Poteet (22-4-3) and Mansfield Legacy (22-8-2) battled through a scoreless first half and then up to the 5:48 of the match as both teams mirrored each other with pressing, marking defense and fierce battles for each loose ball.
Davis' winning goal came after a yellow card call for an illegal tackle by Mansfield Legacy. Legacy defended Mesquite Poteet's shot on goal. The ball bounded towards the sideline, where a shot by Mesquite Poteet bounced off several players, Davis then tapped the ball past the Legacy goalie.

Annalisa Hall scored two second-half goals to lead Friendswood past Wichita Falls Rider 3-2 in the Class 4A girls soccer state semifinals Thursday.
Friendswood (23-6-2) will play in Saturday's final against Richardson Pearce, a 2-1 winner over Boerne Champion in the other semifinal.
All five goals in the Friendswood-Rider match were scored in the second half, starting with Hall's 10-yard shot with 31:10 remaining. Three minutes later, Hall intercepted a pass and scored from 29 yards for a 2-0 Friendswood lead.
Rider (23-6-3) answered when Chelsea Wright played a rebound shot into the net with 23:28 left, but Friendswood made it 3-1 on Delaina McGee's goal with 9:40 remaining.
Brooke Johnston and Maddie Harper scored to help Pearce (25-1-2) rally from a 1-0 deficit against Champion (16-3-7). Tabria Williford scored for Champion.
