Mitchell Davis redirected a weak-side through pass into the goal at 74:12 to lead Mesquite Poteet to a 1-0 win over Mansfield Legacy in the Class 4A boys soccer state semifinals Thursday.

Mesquite Poteet (22-4-3) and Mansfield Legacy (22-8-2) battled through a scoreless first half and then up to the 5:48 of the match as both teams mirrored each other with pressing, marking defense and fierce battles for each loose ball.

Davis' winning goal came after a yellow card call for an illegal tackle by Mansfield Legacy. Legacy defended Mesquite Poteet's shot on goal. The ball bounded towards the sideline, where a shot by Mesquite Poteet bounced off several players, Davis then tapped the ball past the Legacy goalie.
