Darren Allman from Odessa Permian High School has been named head football

coach and athletic director at Westlake High School in the Eanes Independent School District. The EISD

Board of Trustees approved a recommendation from Superintendent Nola Wellman at its monthly meeting

tonight.

"Coach Allman has a stellar background and experience at the 5A level in an intense environment,"

said Dr. Wellman. "I think he will be a great fit at Westlake High School and will advance the commitment to

excellence to which we are dedicated."

Coach Allman has been head football coach and athletic director at Odessa Permian High School

since 2005, posting a 38-11 record in four years. In both 2007 and 2008, Permian captured district titles and

advanced to the regional finals with identical 12-1 records. These two seasons represented the first back-toback

10-win seasons at the school in 20 years. Allman was named District Coach of the Year and was

selected to coach the North Team in the Texas High School Coaches Association All-Star Game following the

2008 season. He also was the All-West Texas Coach of the Year in both 2007 and 2006. Coach Allman has

mentored 38 academic all-state players while at Permian.

"I'm am extremely honored to become the next athletic director and head football coach at Westlake

High School," Coach Allman said. "The tradition of excellence that has been established in all realms of the

educational experience is something I am very excited to be involved with. My intent is to become another

important ingredient in the continuous effort to be the very best in everything we do."

Coach Allman's previous experience included one season as the defensive coordinator at Highland

Park High School (2004) and two in that role at Temple High School (2003). Previously he spent eight

seasons on the staff at Brownwood High School, including six as assistant head coach, defensive coordinator

and athletic coordinator. During his tenure, Brownwood won four district championships, was a state

semifinalist once and a state quarterfinalist once.

A graduate of Hardin Simmons University with a bachelor's degree in English, Coach Allman was a

three-year captain and all-conference selection in football, and earned All-America honors one season. He

graduated from Odessa Permian High School in 1986. He and his wife, Susan, have three children.
