Was there any doubt that Drew Brees would get the job done?
OK. Maybe there was. All because some guy named Manning was on the other side.
But Brees showed the world what we learned about him years ago. He's a big game quarterback.
Westlake's had some great teams through the years, but Brees was the difference in that state championship year of '96. And Purdue made it to the Rose Bowl one year because of him being the quarterback.
You hear negatives about quarterbacks all the time... especially when they're considered "too small" to make it in the NFL. And yet, some guys just have winning in their blood.
Brees knows how to win. Knows what's needed. Knows how to make a comeback. And understands the game he's so good. Doesn't matter that he's just a hair over six feet tall, one of (if not THE) shortest starting quarterback in the NFL.
I can think of a number of tall quarterbacks who were good at being tall... and losing games. Drew Brees has quieted the critics and maybe given "short" quarterbacks a little more life.
It can be a done. Especially if you're a winner... like Drew Brees.
