So LeBron James is going to change from #23 to #6.  Hmmmmm.

Nice gesture... but LeBron IS #23, just like Michael Jordan was..

Some people don't seem too worried about their uniform number.  Remember Chris Simms using three numbers in his four seasons at Texas.  Made it easy to tell if someone was using old video!

But I like the consistency of having that one number tied to you.  So you maybe saying "Hey Barnes.  How about you being #24 and #3?"   You know... like channel 24... and cable channel 3.    Yeah... I wish those numbers were the same.  It'd be less confusing!

In my youth I was a little more relaxed about numbers.  In soccer I was 20 and then 13.  In football I was 41, 65, and 63.  In baseball I always seemed to get a different number.  In basketball, I was 23.  Hey... come to think of it... that was before Jordan.  Maybe he copied me.

My favorite ballplayer was Jeff Burroughs who was #20 with the Rangers.  But then, with other teams, he was always different.  From 7 to 5 to 3 to 44.   Gave me a different "favorite" number for a few years.  And I didn't like that.

I like my players tied to a certain number.   Roger Staubach IS #12.   Bob Lilly IS #74.  Toby Harrah IS #11.  Jim Sundberg IS #10.  Buddy Bell IS #25.  Tony Dorsett IS #33.

Well, for so many fans, LeBron IS #23.   And it'll be like when Michael switched to #45 for a while.

#6 just won't be the same.
