I've seen some "bad" seasons around UT basketball over the last 24 seasons. But never this bad.
Every week you think things won't get any worse for the UT basketball teams. You think back to yesteryear... well, make that November, when the Longhorn men and women were nationally ranked.
Now, they're part of the old joke, "They're not ranked. They're rank."
As in... stinks.
But, in a lot of ways, can you really blame anybody?
OK, maybe on the men's side. The Myck Kabongo situation reminds me of when Dexter Cambridge had his legal issues twenty years ago. It's the type of thing that can mess with a team's confidence. And when Kabongo gets back in February, things will improve.
But, what about the women? Who saw two players having to "retire" from basketball because of injuries? And today, two more players get suspended for at least one game for "violating team rules". And these weren't just any players: Cokie Reed, Chelsea Bass, Chassidy Fussell, and Nneka Enemkpali. That's the heart and soul of the team.
Who's left? A bunch of freshmen and sophomores who are still young, learning, and rough around the edges?
Oh yeah. Same as what's left with the men.
