It wasn't long ago when Vance Bedford established himself as one of the UT football program's best defensive backs in the program's history.
Between 1977 and 1981, Beford broke up 47 pass attempts. That stat remains in the top-10 all time in pass break ups in Texas football history.
He began his coaching career in the Texas high school ranks in 1985, but he decided to begin his college coaching career as an assistant. He made stops at Oklahoma State, Michigan, and Florida to name a few. Beford's relationship with UT head coach Charlie Strong began at the University of Florida in 2008. Strong was the defensive coordinator and Bedford was the defensive backs coach.
When Strong accepted his 1st head coaching gig at Louisville, Bedford followed him to become the Cardinals' defensive coordinator.
Strong didn't think twice who would be his defensive coordinator when he was hired to succeed Mack Brown as the Texas Longhorns head coach.
For Bedford, it was a no-brainer to return to his home. His alma mater.
