AUSTIN -- Former Louisville head coach and two-time conference coach of the year becomes the 29th head coach for the University of Texas.

A press release on Sunday from the University of Texas confirms what sources have been speculating for days.

"I am excited to have Charlie Strong here to build on the proud tradition of Texas football," said Steve Patterson, University of Texas Men's Athletics Director.

Charlie Strong boarded a plane from Louisville to Austin Sunday.

"To follow a future Hall of Fame coach like Mack Brown, who built a program that had great success and a reputation of doing it with class and integrity, is extra special," Strong said.

Strong is expected to receive a five-year contract worth approximately $5 million annually.

A televised press conference is scheduled for Monday Jan. 6.
