MINNEAPOLIS (AP) -- Two football games between Minnesota and Texas have been canceled due to a contract impasse over video rights.

The announcement was made Wednesday by the Minnesota athletics department.

The Gophers and Longhorns had been scheduled to play nonconference games in 2015 at TCF Bank Stadium in Minneapolis and in 2016 at Darrell K. Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium in Austin.

The schools have not met in the sport since 1936.

Minnesota athletics director Joel Maturi says the university is "extremely disappointed" the series won't take place. He says the video rights issue is complex and beyond its control.

Texas officials didn't immediately return phone calls seeking comment.
