The Texas Stars, proud American Hockey League affiliate of the Dallas Stars, announced today the opening night roster for the 2012-13 season.  The Stars also announced that veteran defenseman Maxime Fortunus has been named team captain.

As Texas prepares for the 2012-13 AHL season, 27 players currently reside on the team’s opening night roster, consisting of two goaltenders, nine defensemen and 16 forwards.  There are 24 players on NHL two-way contracts with Dallas, one player on a standard AHL contract and the team signed defenseman Cam Barker and center Taylor Vause to professional tryout contracts on Thursday; both attended Stars training camp on a tryout basis.

The Texas Stars also announced that defenseman Maxime Fortunus has been named the team captain for the 2012-13 season.  Fortunus, 29, is one of the original Texas Stars, having played for the team since its inaugural 2009-10 season.  The La Prairie, Quebec native has appeared in 501 career AHL games, eight career NHL games with Dallas and enters the season as Texas’s all-time leader amongst defensemen in games played (205), goals (22), points (77) and power play goals (7) and he is second in assists (55) and shots (275).  Fortunus becomes the third captain in Texas Stars franchise history.

Texas will begin the 2012-13 AHL season on Saturday, October 13th as they travel south down I-35 to square off with their in-state rival San Antonio Rampage.  The Stars then have their home opener on Sunday, October 14th as they host the Charlotte Checkers for a 7:00 pm faceoff at Cedar Park Center.  2012-13 season seat packages and individual game tickets are on sale now.
