AUSTIN, Texas (AP) -- Texas signed another highly-rated recruiting class, a group anchored by a national record-setting running back and notable for its last-minute additions.
Running back Johnathan Gray of Aledo, the Gatorade national high school player of the year, set a national record with 205 career touchdowns.
Texas coach Mack Brown, who usually has his recruiting classes locked up months before signing day, had several late additions in the final week. The last came on Wednesday when linebacker Torshiro Davis of Shreveport, La., backed out of an oral commitment to Louisiana State to sign with Texas.
Brown routinely signs recruiting classes ranked among the best in the nation but the Longhorns are just 13-12 over the last two seasons.
