COPPELL — Coppell police are trying to determine why a pickup truck crashed through a fence and into a backyard swimming pool overnight, killing the driver.

According to investigators, Adam Hartwick was eastbound on Sandy Lake Road when his vehicle crossed the median and careened through the wooden fence around 11:20 p.m. Sunday.

The red 2001 Dodge Dakota extended cab truck landed upside-down in the pool behind the residence in the 800 block of Leslie Lane.

Police said the homeowner and the first emergency personnel tried without success to free Hartwick from the cab.

It took specialized rescue gear to get him out. The 19-year-old driver was rushed to Lewisville Medical Center, where he was later pronounced dead.

No one else was injured.
