Dallas' Kim is on a course all his own

Anthony Kim's to-do list before the season looked something like this:

Make Ryder Cup team ... star in MTV Cribs ... be the baddest person on the planet.

Well, two out of three's not bad, especially considering Kim took a big step toward goal No. 3 by kickboxing Sergio Garcia in Sunday's lead-off singles match.

Only 23, and with his "AK" belt buckles, Kim makes Tiger Woods look old. Instead of milk and cookies before bed, AK unwinds by watching ultimate fighting. The Dallas resident knows more about martial artist "The Iceman" Chuck Liddell than golf's "Iceman," Ben Hogan.

Ropes recently learned that AK will be featured in MTV Cribs. That's big news in the golf world, where cribs are still used for sleeping babies. Kim is not sure when taping begins. He will begin moving to a new crib in Preston Hollow after this week's Tour Championship. And he has a new home course, Lakewood Country Club.

Still, Kim allowed Ropes access inside his ropes, so to speak. Some highlights of the Q&A:

Dude, being in MTV Cribs could be cool, but then again, do you really want the world inside your crib?

No, I don't mind. I'm an open book. I just want people to know who I am, and it's been my dream for a long time to be somebody, and to make an impact on people's lives, and to inspire little kids to live out their dreams, because that's what I'm doing with my life.

What's it like being a 23-year-old multimillionaire living in Dallas?

It's great. I wouldn't trade it for the world. The only thing is, I wish Dallas had a beach, but nothing's perfect. I love being here. The people are friendly. The night life is great, and I feel very fortunate to be in the position I'm in.

(Trying to sound cool:) Where do you hang?

I hang out at Starbucks. I'm a homebody. I like to have friends over, and we'll get catered food, or go out to a nice club. I also like to go to all kinds of restaurants.

Uptown or Deep Ellum?

I would say that I hang out at both equally.

You grew up in Los Angeles and went to college at Oklahoma. Why did you choose to live in Dallas?

A lot of people I went to school with live here. I like to be close to friends. And you can't beat where you're traveling from – you're three hours to each coast.

So you're moving to Preston Hollow. You're practically a suburbanite.

It's not so much that. I feel like I need a little more security as far as people knowing where I live. My new place has a gated fence. The thing I liked about the neighborhood was that the houses had armed guards on the property. I wanted to be where I was a little safer.

What's in AK's media room?

There's some Guitar Hero, there's Wii, there's Xbox 360 – I don't play video games but my best friend does – there's a big TV, couches, a bunch of movies and surround sound.

I know you're a big fan of extreme fighting. Who's your favorite combatant?

Chuck Liddell. He's the California kid. I feel like I'm supporting where I came from. I'm a huge fan. I love watching all the fights.

How would you fare in the ring?

If I was stronger, faster and bigger, I would do great. I think I would have the right mind-set because I'm very competitive; you know, second place isn't good enough. Physically I don't have it. But mentally, I think if I had the right tools, I could do it.

Well, you're young. You could still do it.

No, thanks.
