TULSA, Okla. – Defending champion Anna Schultz was eliminated from the USGA Senior Women's Amateur Championship on Monday, losing her first match, 2 and 1, to Anne Carr of Seattle at Tulsa Country Club.
Schultz, from Rockwall, hit just five greens in regulation, including only one on the back nine, and lost a 3-up lead after eight holes to Carr.
Former champion Carolyn Creekmore of Dallas, who was the medalist in the 36-hole qualifer, advanced with a 5 and 4 victory over Mary Flynn of Eden Prairie, Minn.
"I just try to pretend that I am the 64th player to get into the matches instead of the first and go play my game," Creekmore said.
Fort Worth's Toni Wiesner also won, defeating Ann Swanson of Redmond, Wash., 2-up.
Two local men advance: In Fort Worth, John Grace of Fort Worth won his first match at the USGA Senior Amateur Championship, 6 and 5, over Thomas Bartolacci of Washington Crossing, Pa., at Shady Oaks Country Club.
Colleyville's Ralph Cotton also advanced, defeating Alistair Catto of South Hadley, Mass., 3 and 2.
