Texas-Arkansas rivalry loses luster as years pass

11:19 PM CDT on Friday, September 26, 2008

From staff reports

Even though fans may remember Arkansas as a rival, its meeting with No. 7 Texas today is just the fourth in 17 seasons.

And Arkansas is coming off a 49-14 beating against Alabama, further watering down today's matchup.

But the Razorbacks have won three of the last four meetings in Austin, including upsetting then-No. 5 Texas in 2003. The Horns won the following season in Fayetteville, the most recent meeting.

"We've tried to tell them you can't go back to the Southwest Conference," coach Mack Brown said. "You can't get excited about this game just because a lot of our older boosters that played in this game many years ago are excited.

"But you can get excited because it's a team from the SEC. It's a team that's 2-1. It's a team that's trying to knock you out of your national ranking."

Whittaker may not play with knee injury

Running back Fozzy Whittaker, who missed last week's win over Rice, is listed as questionable for today's game with a right knee injury.
