Eight reasons to head outdoors

12:00 AM CDT on Friday, May 30, 2008

BEASTRO AT THE FORT WORTH ZOO For this trip to the zoo, ditch the notion of concession-stand food. The Fort Worth Zoo's annual Beastro fundraiser is all about more upscale cuisine from restaurants such as Texas de Brazil, Goodnight Loving Steakhouse, Olenjack's Grille, Daddy Jack's Lobster and Chowder House, Cafe Aspen

and Simply Fondue. Food sampling stations will be set up throughout the zoo grounds.

The June 6 event is for ages 21

and older. Since the party happens in the evening, many of the zoo animals will be in their sleeping quarters, but some exhibits

will be open until sunset. There'll also be appearances by the

Zoo's Wild Wonders Outreach animals. Country music party animal Charlie Robison will perform. Emerald City Band

and the Wonders are also on

the bill.

June 6 from 7:30 to 11:30 p.m. at the zoo, 1989 Colonial Parkway (off University Drive, south of Interstate 30), Fort Worth. Tickets may be purchased through the zoo's Web site until Tuesday. A limited number of tickets will be available for purchase at the gate. 817-759-7373. www.fortworthzoo.org.

{TriRight} $85 (includes food, drinks and concerts) in advance; $100 at the gate.

And when this festival goes for Tejano, it's in the grittier vein, with acts such as Stampede and Michael Salgado.
