Small and local businesses are considered the backbone of Austin's economic engine.

On Thursday that engine got a turbo boost from the start up of a new search engine website.

It's called Bluedoorway.com.  The new website pre-loaded 35 to 40,000 local businesses into its website.

Local businesses can pay a fraction of what the larger search engines charge to have their names and businesses pop up on the front page.

Users, who can use the website for free, can enter the radius in which they'd like to find local businesses.

"Everyone goes to the web for data.  What we do with that data is we make sure that it is clean data that the person can use," said Charles Clark, the CEO of Bluedoorway.com

"The main difference is we have a radius set that the user can determine.  The others don't have that so we're taking the  local businesses and truly making them local," added Clark.

Bluedoorway.com had the website's kick-off party at Shoreline Grill Thursday evening.

One of the attendees, Steve Charron, is the owner of an Oak Hill custom winery called "Vintner's Cellar."

Charron and his wife Mary paid Bluedoorway.com to have his businesses featured prominently on the website.

"It's very costly to do advertising especially for a small business like we have here," said Charron.

Bluedoorway.com is hoping to branch out into the Dallas area at the beginning of the year before going globally.
