AUSTIN -- In this Does it Work Wednesday we tested a new generation of portable speakers called the Soundboard.

The company promises to transform your smart phone into something bigger and much louder. Their promotional video shows a user placing a phone on the Soundboard.

The new device works without Bluetooth pairing, using no wires, and without the need to connect to another device.

The Soundboard is battery operated. You can also plug it into your computer with the included cable.

On top of the device there is a small inductive plate that senses vibrations and amplifies them.

It works with iPhones, iPads, Android devices and many more smart phones. The Soundboard is also touted to work well as a speakerphone.

KVUE attempted to use the device to place a call. The person on the other end said the call kept cutting in and out like a voice-activated microphone.

Soundboard does costs much less than some wireless Bluetooth speakers, but there are definitely other amplifiers and speakers that can do a better job.
