AUSTIN -- If you spend a lot of time cooking, you know how easy it is to burn yourself on a hot pan, or over a steaming pot. Now one product claims it can keep your hands protected.

The Ove’ Glove says it has a triple layer of heat, flame and steam protection and claims its non-slip silicone grip can withstand temperatures up to 540 degrees.

The Glove's outer layer is 80 percent nomex and 20 percent kevlar, with a latex layer on the inside to protect you from steam.

Chef Ethan Holmes works at Second Bar and Kitchen on Congress Avenue.

“We burn ourselves all the time,” he said. “One of the things we try to teach young cooks is that you have to use a dry towel all the time, because it literally feels like you're being electrocuted if you use a wet towel.”

With the Ove’ Glove, he can put scalding hot cast iron pans in and out of the pizza oven. He also rests his gloved hand over a steaming pot of water, with no problem.

Chef Holmes says it works and gives the Ove’ Glove a thumbs up.
