Jim Bergamo

Reporter

Not many journalists get the chance to split their career between news and sports, but I've been blessed with that rare opportunity over the last 30 years, and what a ride it's been!

After I graduated from Louisiana State University (Geaux Tigers!), I was ready to jump into the world of news reporting, but the only opening at the time was for a sports anchor/reporter. A news director friend of mine suggested I take it because, "you never know where it might lead." Boy was he right!

For 15 years, I had the pleasure of covering some of the best pro, college and high school sports around. I even covered Mack Brown back when he wore the green and aqua of Tulane and not the burnt orange of UT. I especially enjoyed working as a sideline reporter for ABC Sports and getting to work with broadcasting legends Keith Jackson and Al Michaels. And what sportscaster wouldn't love the anchoring ESPN's SportsCenter? I got that privilege back in the early 90s.

In 1995, I finally got the chance to realize my initial dream of reporting the news. Working in major markets like Houston and Miami allowed me to cover some of the most nationally important breaking news stories of that time. The Oklahoma City bombing and the Columbine shootings were two of the most emotionally draining stories I ever reported. I was working in Miami during the contentious Bush-Gore 2000 Presidential election recount saga. I've also covered several national stories for ABC NewsOne.

Joining KVUE in October of 2006, I now have the best of both worlds. I get to work with the award-winning KVUE news team and my wife, Kari and I get to call Central Texas home. Oh, I still bleed purple & gold, but there's nothing more beautiful than a burnt orange Austin sunset.
