Meghan Danahey
Daybreak/Midday Meteorologist
Thunder and lightning used to scare me when I was little. I ran like crazy when my Dad tried to document family milestones with the old video camera. I find it funny that I turned out to be the one on your television screen talking about your morning weather! As a child of an airline pilot living in Dallas-Fort Worth, I heard lots of fun weather stories at the dinner table growing up and became fascinated by big, noisy North Texas storms.
My career began with an internship at WFAA-TV in Dallas. From there, I got my first weather job smack in the middle of tornado alley. I spent almost five years in Wichita Falls, Texas-Lawton, Oklahoma, chasing tornadoes and running from large hailstones; all while working my way up to Chief Meteorologist. It was a wild ride. I wanted to go somewhere completely different next, so I moved to Waterman Broadcasting in Fort Myers-Naples, Florida. Tropical weather forecasting was a whole new challenge; so was riding out Cat 3 Hurricane Wilma for 24 hours at my television station!
I enjoyed the beach, but my family was back in Texas. I moved back to Dallas and returned to our sister stations, WFAA and Texas Cable News. When the morning weather position opened up here at KVUE in the spring of 2008, I jumped at the chance to transfer down. Even though I hold a degree from Texas A&M University, I've always loved Austin and the Texas Hill Country.
Golf is one of my favorite things to do when it's not stormy. I have been a volunteer for the PGA Colonial in Fort Worth for over 12 years. I have been lucky to play eight links courses with my Dad in Ireland over the last few years. Someday, I'll play Saint Andrews in Scotland. Other fun trips include the Canadian Rockies, Italy & Greece, Australia and I even played soccer over in London for several weeks out of high school. I love sports. I live for football season and I love my Dallas Stars hockey!
You might catch me on a campus near you during the school year. I love to get out and talk to students about the weather. You can catch my forecasts on KVUE News Daybreak, weekdays from 5-7am and KVUE News Midday, weekdays from 11am-noon.
