Ashley Goudeau

Weekend Daybreak Anchor/Reporter

On the last day of my sophomore year of high school, Mr. Jeff Couch, my world history teacher, told me I would be a television news reporter. He said it was something about my calm personality and the fact that I’m not afraid to strike up a conversation with anyone. I am so happy that he was right. I truly love this career and count myself blessed to be a part of the KVUE News team.

The city of Austin has always had a very special place in my heart. It was here that I first developed my love of journalism. My parents moved to Austin shortly after I was born. Growing up, I would routinely call family members in our hometown of Baytown, Texas to conduct “news interviews.” A few years later, we moved back to the Houston area and in high school, I started taking broadcast journalism classes.

My “big break” came in 2006 when I was hired to be an assignment editor for KIAH in Houston, Texas. A few months later, Central Texas came calling. I was a reporter at KCEN HD News in Waco/Temple/Killeen, Texas. There I covered an array of stories from breaking news to Baylor sports. I was the lead reporter for the high-profile murder case of Matt Baker, the Central Texas pastor found guilty of murdering his wife. I also did extensive coverage of the November 5, 2009 massacre on Fort Hood, including continuous live hits on MSNBC. In November 2011, I was awarded an Emmy from the Lone Star Emmy Chapter for a story I wrote and produced on people who hack into video baby monitor systems.

A Texas native, I grew up in Houston and attended Sam Houston State University in Huntsville. I studied broadcast journalism in the Dan Rather School of Communications and graduated cum laude. While at SHSU, I served as an anchor and reporter for KSHU Channel 7 News.

When I’m not chasing news, I enjoy cooking, spending time with my family, and doing community service with my sorority, Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.
