Rebekah Hood

Online Correspondent

I am a Texan gal born and raised and am thrilled to be working in the heart of the Lone Star State!

I am the online correspondent for KVUE’s award-winning website, KVUE.com. I am also the reporter behind the website’s feature, I Wonder, and the face you'll often see in KVUE.com's Web-exclusive interviews and stories. In addition, I manage KVUE's social media accounts.

Journalism has long been my passion. I have never been camera shy and have always loved to write. Thus, when it came time to choose a career path, broadcast journalism just “fit.” I graduated with a degree in broadcast journalism from the Schieffer School of Journalism at Texas Christian University (Go Frogs!). I also minored in history.

While at TCU, I reported for TCU News Now, the campus cable TV station and worked as the station’s executive producer and news director. As news director, I initiated the creation and launch of a new website for the station. I will never forget co-anchoring the school’s first livestream webcast during the 2008 Presidential Election on that website.

I am grateful for the experience to have practiced all aspects of journalism in the Schieffer School. I have shot, written, produced, edited, reported and even anchored my own work. Several news packages aired on KDAF-TV in Dallas-Fort Worth.

Before graduating, I interned for “The FOX Report with Shepard Smith” at FOX News Channel in New York City. In addition to learning from some of the most seasoned journalists in the business, I was selected to serve on a small team of interns who created the FOX News Channel’s intern website from scratch. It was the experience of a lifetime!

After graduating from TCU, I decided to veer career paths a bit and forgo taking a one-man-band TV reporting job. Instead, I honed in on my love for all things Web and the opportunities that I believe lie ahead in the world of Web reporting.

I was soon hired as the Web producer and a TV reporter at KCEN-TV in Waco, Texas just months before the Fort Hood massacre occurred on November 5, 2009. The tragic shooting gave me the opportunity to put all of my skills to the test, reporting via telephone to radio and television stations all over Texas and even the world. I announced the name of the shooter, MAJ. Nidal Malik Hasan, to a large portion of Texas listening to the “Joe Pags Show” on WOAI and was interviewed twice by BBC Radio in London. Also while at KCEN, I broke new ground for the station using a live blog to cover the high-profile murder case of Matt Baker, a former Central Texas pastor charged with his wife’s murder.

I came to KVUE to be the Web content producer and create and manage much of the journalistic content on KVUE.com. Almost exactly one year later, I was promoted to online correspondent, the first multimedia position of its kind at KVUE and arguably the Austin media market and journalism business.

When I am not working, I enjoy reading a good book, walking around Town Lake with my husband, traveling, hunting down some good live music with friends, or checking things off my Austin “to do” list. Yes, there is an actual list!
