CARACAS, Venezuela (AP) — Venezuelan authorities are investigating the shooting death of a student at a high school in downtown Caracas.
The Prosecutor General's Office says the 16-year-old victim was shot inside the Andres Bello School. Nobody was arrested and it remains unclear who was responsible for the shooting.
The school's director refused to talk to a journalist from The Associated Press about Thursday's shooting, citing restrictions imposed by the government on discussing the incident with the media.
The prosecutor's office did not release the name of the victim in the press release.
Venezuela has one of the highest murder rates in Latin America, but shooting deaths inside schools are very rare.
