Georgetown P.D. chief's daughter arrested on drug charges
06:25 PM CDT on Wednesday, June 25, 2008
Williamson County law enforcement brags about its tough on crime reputation, but on June 15 the accused criminal was the Georgetown police chief's daughter, Samantha Ann Morgan, 18.
According to a one-page arrest affidavit, Morgan was a passenger in an SUV that was pulled over on Vortac Lane in Georgetown because of a defective headlight. Inside the vehicle, during a consented search, an officer found .98 ounces of marijuana and $1,247 in cash inside Morgan's purse.
The officer says he tried to arrest Morgan; instead, she ran down the street. She gave up the chase just 200 yards away, and the officer put her in handcuffs. Back at the patrol car, Morgan started fighting the arrest again. The officer says she kicked him.
Once he had her under control, the officer took Morgan to the Williamson County Sheriff's Office. There, Morgan denied having any other drugs, but during a cavity search more drugs were found in a bag inside her -- 2.7 grams of crack cocaine.
Morgan was booked on a $10,000 bond, which was posted the next day by magistrate. Chief Morgan says his daughter stayed in jail for six days.

Her father, Police Chief David Morgan, commended the arresting officer despite the controversy behind the arrest.
"They (the arresting officers) performed their duty and held my daughter accountable for her behavior, just as they would any other citizen," said Chief Morgan. "She will always be my daughter and I will always be there for her with love in my heart. While this incident is unfortunate, I hope that some good can come from this for her benefit."
Samantha Morgan is scheduled for court July 10. The Williamson County District Attorney's Office says it cannot comment since Morgan's case is still pending but calls her arrest a sad situation.
Morgan's charges are listed as 3rd degree felonies.
