After spending months in jail, one of two Austin men accused of planning an attack at the Republican National Convention last year pleaded guilty in court Thursday afternoon.
Bradley Neal Crowder, 23, pleaded guilty to a single charge of possessing an unregistered firearm.
He and David Guy McKay, 22, have been held since early September without bail.
Prosecutors say the men were part of an Austin-based protest group called "Austin Affinity." Crowder was the group's alleged leader.
According to an arrest affidavit, the men made homemade explosives, including Molotov cocktails, and planned to hurl them at police cars during the convention in Minneapolis this past September.
An FBI informant who pretended to be part of the protest group tipped off authorities before the men could act.
In his plea Thursday afternoon, Crowder admitted that he helped build the firebombs, but never said how he intended to use them.
Crowder faces up to 46 months in prison or longer if a judge chooses. His sentencing date hasn't been set.
McKay is scheduled to go on trial January 26. He has continued to maintain his innocence.
