Feral hogs leave Northwest Austin family's yard in ruins
05:55 PM CDT on Friday, August 15, 2008
A Northwest Austin family says it is at a loss to get rid of feral hogs that are roaming the area and leaving their yard in ruins.
“I have hog tracks and I have deer tracks and I have hog droppings and I have deer droppings and on very rainy, moist days, it smells really bad, like a stockyard,” Christine Hausmann says.
She says her husband counted 28 feral hogs in her neighbor’s yard in the Great Hills area Friday morning. The hogs are apparently attracted by corn and water the neighbor puts out for wildlife.
“There were piglets, too,” she says. “They were rooting for everything, and as they were rooting you could hear rocks moving as they were looking for the corn. “
Hausmann says the hogs go through her yard, leaving tracks, droppings and holes.
She welcomes wildlife in general, but is concerned the hogs may carry disease or be aggressive toward her three small dogs.
