Jurors: Man accused of child abuse should lose custody

A Hays County jury Thursday afternoon convicted a man on 14 counts of the first degree felony charge of injury to a child for seriously abusing his three children. It's a case investigators call the worst they have ever seen.
Cesar Mojica's children were removed from his home near Dripping Springs in 2006.
They had severe bite marks and deep bruises over most of their bodies. In addition, all three children -- a then-4-year-old daughter and 3-year-old twins -- a boy and a girl -- had broken bones and were malnourished.
Jurors spent more than 2 days deliberating a verdict. Prosecutors told them Mojica is guilty of knowingly beating and otherwise abusing his children.
The defense said he was abused as a child and didn't know another way to discipline his children. They said he has the mental abilities of an 8-year-old and argued he is guilty only of a less serious crime of injury to a child by negligence.
The punishment phase in this trial begins Friday. Mojica faces a sentence of probation to life in prison.
