New Capital Metro route to use MoPac Express Lanes

AUSTIN - Capital Metro will begin connecting Round Rock and downtown Austin on the new MoPac express lanes.

MetroExpress Route 980 will launch Nov. 13, and offer 11 morning and evening trips. CapMetro said the new route will be part of the service's expansion in Round Rock that kicked off in late August.

In January 2018, Capital Metro will add multiple MetroExpress routes that will also utilize the Express Lanes for a faster commute.

Commuters can purchase single fares for $3.50 and day passes for $7.

According to the Deputy Executive Director of the Central Texas Regional Mobility Authority Jeff Dailey, “We built Express Lanes on MoPac to move more people through the region and we are thrilled that the addition of the MetroExpress routes will help that to become a reality.”

Due to the longstanding relationship with transit agency and the Central Texas Regional Mobility Authority, the buses will be allowed to use the toll lanes for free.
