Residents around Northcross Mall presented a petition to the Austin City Council on Monday. They're protesting the construction of a new Wal-Mart in their North Austin community.

The group gave the city council a petition with more than 3,500 signatures against the development. Most of the signatures were gathered over the weekend.

The group says the 220,000-square-foot structure would be an eyesore and bring unwanted traffic to the area.

The city council will address the Wal-Mart issue on Thursday.
