05:45 PM CST on Wednesday, November 14, 2007
A toddler was hit and severely injured outside her babysitter's home Wednesday. She later died.
It happened in Leander. Officials say the 2-year-old was playing outside the babysitter's home while the babysitter was having carpets cleaned.
That's when officials say the carpet cleaning worker struck the child. in the driveway.
The child was rushed to Dell Children's Medical Center with severe injuries. The toddler died a short time later.
The driver, who is not being identified at this time, was visibly distraught as he sat on the front porch.
The investigation is still in the preliminary stages, but officials told KVUE News that it will most likely be ruled an accident.
The van is owned by an Austin-based business called, "The Steam Company." A supervisor who was at the scene declined to comment.
Because this incident is expected to be ruled as an accident, at this time, no charges are expected to be filed.
