Crews install Zilker Tree of Lights
03:26 PM CST on Wednesday, November 5, 2008
It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas at Zilker Park. Austin Energy crews began assembling the Zilker Tree of Lights Wednesday.
The "tree" consists of 3,300 lights on 39 streamers attached to the 150 foot moon tower in the park. Each streamer holds 81 red, yellow, blue and green bulbs, with the yellow bulbs used to create swirls around the tree.
Austin Energy officials say an electrician is responsible for making sure each yellow bulb is properly placed.
The Tree of Lights, which was first lit in 1967, is one of the tallest in the nation.
A tree lighting ceremony will be Sunday, December 7 at 6 p.m. It will be lit each night after that until December 31.
